With the 2018 wedding season in full swing, it’s time to start thinking about 2019 weddings! If you’re planning your big day for next year, we’ve done the hard work for you and browsed numerous Pinterest boards, Instagram, magazines, wedding blogs and our own photo gallery to help bring you some of the best wedding trends.
We know that wedding planning is hard, so if you’re in the process of planning your big day, take a look at these wedding trends and ideas to help inspire you!
1. Unplugged Ceremonies
We’ve seen more couples opting to keep their ceremonies intimate by politely asking guests to keep cameras and phones tucked away during the ceremony - leaving the photography to the professional. Not only is this hugely beneficial for the sake of the photographer capturing the moment in their snaps, but it also allows guests to switch off and enjoy a memorable day.
2. Simple & Embroidered Dresses
With Royal Wedding fever in the air, Meghan’s dress will certainly pave the way for bridal fashion in 2019. We’re expecting next years dress designs to be classic and simple, as well as featuring elegant embroidery. In true royal fashion, we can also expect plenty of brides to opt for a tiara for the finishing touch.
3. Big, Bold & Bright
We’ve seen an increase in colourful weddings in 2018. from cakes and flowers, through to the decor and finishing touches, we expect bright colours to be a continuing trend, especially for Spring/Summer weddings in 2019. Think rainbow colours and tropical flowers to really make your day stand out. The brighter, the better!
4. Creative Table Plans
We know that drawing up the table plan is a daunting part of wedding planning for most couples and this puts some fun back into the process. Think outside the box with how you want your table plan to be displayed. At Bickley Mill, we’ve seen so many unique table plans, from potted plants on upcycled wooden pallets to this crafty string plan (good luck finding your table). The more creative it is, the better!
5. Hanging Plants & Florals
Florists are frequently being challenged with new requests for hanging flowers and greenery, and it’s not hard to see why! Choosing to hang flowers and foliage over placing on tables and floors, completely transforms a venue - giving a sense of bringing the outdoors, indoors which makes this trend perfect for all seasons.

6. Keepsake Guestbooks
With many couples choosing stylish keepsakes as guestbooks, say goodbye to the traditional guestbook. Rather than an unused book on the shelf that’s only be pulled out for anniversaries and special occasions, opt for something that can always be on display. We’ve seen fingerprint trees, puzzles and Polaroid snap collages - all great ways to display wedding messages all year round, and we can’t wait to see more creative guestbooks in 2019!
7. DIY Food & Drink Stations
We’ve seen all kinds of food and drink stations - sweet carts, hot chocolate bars, Pimms stands, pimp your prosecco stalls and doughnut stacks… there is a type of station to suit all wedding themes and seasons. Whatever you choose for your big day, a food or drink station is always a hit with guests between the ceremony and reception!
8. Photo & Video Booths
Photobooths have been popular for a while, but it’s time to step the game up a notch by introducing video… why limit those famous wedding speeches to just a select few? Video lets all guests leave a special message, story, or congratulatory message that you can look back on forever. Whether hiring a company to set up a booth or creating your own, there are endless possibilities that allow your big day to be a memorable one for everyone involved!
9. Hashtags and geo-filters
Unlike unplugged ceremonies, this is quite the opposite. We’ve seen lots of couples getting social with their big day, encouraging guests to use custom hashtags and geo-filters to share the celebrations online. This is great for those with friends and family that can’t make the big day! Of course, this trend isn’t for everyone, some people like to keep their entire wedding day under wraps and only share their official wedding photos.
