Spring is here, and summer is on its way, it’s a great time to start planning your summer holidays. Bickley Mill is located in one of the best parts of the country for exploring the outdoors, and there are lots of events happening on our doorstep.

We have put together our top summer events in South Devon to help you with planning some fun days out when you stay with us at Bickley Mill.

Dart Music Festival

For all those who love music, Dart Music Festival in the beautiful riverside town of Dartmouth is a must-attend event. 

This year’s event is the festival’s twentieth anniversary, and the organisers claim it will be the best yet; “a hugely enjoyable weekend of exploration and musical discovery”.

With music genres ranging from jazz, rock, reggae, blues/soul, folk, and classical, Dart Music Festival guarantees something to suit every taste.

Over 100 acts will be performing in many different venues throughout the town, creating a constant festival buzz and a great atmosphere. Churches, restaurants and hotels will open their doors for punters to see shows, and open air performances will take place at the festival’s central area.  For more information, visit the Dart Music Festival website

Brixfest 2017

Brixham is a quaint fishing town sitting on the English Riviera. Just 30 minutes from Bickley Mill, it’s one of the secret gems of the South West.  

Join in the celebration of Brixham’s past and present by attending Brixfest, a five-day festival of fun activities. From sailing regattas and firework displays to Heritage trails, there’s something for everyone.

Friday 2nd-4th June

Kingsbridge Food and Music Festival

If you enjoy great music and delicious food, here’s a three-day festival which offers both! 

Kingsbridge Food and Music Festival is held in beautiful Kingsbridge, a short 35-40 minute journey away from us at Bickley Mill, so there’s no excuse not to attend if you’re staying with us.

This festival aims to celebrate the diverse mix of local culinary delights and electric sounds that originate from the area. 

Kingsbridge even have a 'Kids Zone' at the festival site, offering free workshops for children with some brilliant local outdoor activity groups as well as craft sessions, face painting and a bouncy castle.

Saturday 3rd-4th June 

Torbay Air Show

Torbay Airshow is perfect for a fun family day out with a difference. You won’t be able to look away from the sky - the RAF air shows are amazing! 

The flying programme takes place over two full afternoons on the first weekend in June and includes displays from outfits including the world’s premier acrobatic team, the Red Arrows, the Typhoon Jet, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight aircraft, the Hurricane Hawker, Avro Lancaster and Supermarine Spitfire.

Not only this but there are also a multitude of activities to get stuck into at ground level, from fairground rides to eating from the local catering outlets; you can even take your flight in a Red Arrow or Typhoon in one of the simulators.

1st - 2nd July

South Devon 1940s Festival

Turn back time with South Devon’s 1940s Festival – a unique festival and a true highlight of the year!

Held in Buckfastleigh station, you’ll find a lot of activities and entertainment within an atmosphere that you won’t find anywhere else. Look out for things like 1940s vehicles, food and live entertainment for all the family.

8th July

Exeter Quayside : Annual City of Exeter Regatta

On Saturday 8th July 2017 Exeter Quayside will hold the annual City of Exeter Regatta. This is an all-day event which kicks off at 10:00 am and finishes up at 6:00 pm.  

This event is said to be the oldest sporting event in Exeter and has always attracted hundreds of spectators and competitors. The regatta itself is held on the River Exe, near to Exeter Quay’s cafes, restaurants and the antique market. There will be over 100 exciting sprint races along the 400-metre course, so there’s plenty to see for all the family.
